Support for Under-Represented Faculty
Making The Transition
From Graduate Student to Professor

BlackAcademic.com is an online mentoring portal for under-represented faculty, post-docs, graduate students, and those who are committed to our success. We provide resources and services for individual scholars, institutional clients, and professional organizations in the social and behavioral sciences. We encourage visitors to explore the following:

Discussion Forums

Come join other academics to discuss professional concerns unique to being an under-represented faculty member, post-doc, or graduate student. The purpose of our discussion forums are to provide an active and supportive online mentoring community for those who find themselves at predominately white institutions where mentors are few and far between.

New Faculty Success Workshops

We offer a variety of half-day and full-day professional development workshops on time management, conflict resolution, efficient teaching, and the art of saying "no". Workshops provide an excellent community-building opportunity for institutions, networking opportunity for professional organizations, and are periodically offered as teleworkshop for individuals.

The Black Academic's Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing Your Soul

For African American scholars, who may be the lone minority faculty member in a department, navigating the tenure minefield can be a particularly harrowing process. We go beyond standard professional resources to serve up practical advice for Black faculty intent on playing and winning the tenure game. Addressing head-on how power and the thorny politics of race converge in the academy, The Black Academic's Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing Your Soul, is full of invaluable tips and hard-earned wisdom. It is an essential handbook that will help Black faculty survive and thrive in academia without losing their voices, or their integrity.
